Winter Fairy — The Hermit

Cold and dark and so alive…

Your heart is gliding on a thin edge like the river ice fairies of Guadalope’s Bog who skate circles under the shadow of swamp cedars in the full moon — that is your soft heart in your chest while you sit at the diner counter. While you pour out the cream from the tiny plastic cup into your coffee, your heart won’t stay still. When the winter fairy feels themselves slipping too far from shore, they skate back to the banks and flop down in the snow. It is the hug of the snowbank that brings them back to earth.

Winter fairies are the hermits of the world. And hermits know that they possess the most mini-marshmallows of hearts, and love inviting their close-knit group for a cup of cocoa and sketching, and then kiss them all goodbye for a night under a thick quilt and a bright set of stars.
